If You Build It, They Will Come

by Michelle Shreeve on

In the 1989 sensational movie, Field of Dreams, "If you build it, he will come," was the initial whisper that Ray (played by actor Kevin Costner) heard out in his Iowa corn field. He didn't know what the whisper meant at the beginning of the movie, but by the end, he understood more than just the words of the whisper-- he understood more about life and legacy.

Ray wrestled for some time with the fact that his father passed away, and they didn't end on good terms. His father was a true dedicated baseball fan, and even had aspirations of being a baseball player someday, but sadly never was. This "whisper" led Ray down a path to making a baseball field in replacement of his corn field that generated income--a risky move people around Ray said he was crazy for making. In a way, Ray felt that if he followed through with the whisper, that somehow that can mend the relationship with his father and he can finally heal from his past. The more time and belief he invested in this project, the more he hoped this would let him heal what was broken between him and his late father.

The movie takes him on a journey to not only understand the life and relationship he had when his father was still alive, but the importance of the legacies everyone leaves behind-- whether they are famous, whether they have families, whether they are doctors, or even whether they are baseball legends.

When Reflekta founders Adam Drake and Miles Spencer started this company, it wasn't based on an idea to just generate income. The idea started from their belief that families want to stay connected with loved ones who have passed away-- that they want more memories, more time, and sometimes the opportunity to heal from brokenness that never got mended before loved ones were separated. Adam Drake and Miles Spencer believed in what families long for in life with one another, but also what they leave behind.

A belief can create an idea. An idea can grow into something extraordinary. Adam Drake and Miles Spencer created and built something extraordinary with founding Reflekta. It started as a whisper, and then they took action. Just like Ray from the movie, they dealt with doubters along the way, but stayed focused on what they believed families are needing and wanting.

And Reflekta has already helped families out there and they continue to do so.

Just like the end of the movie, families are starting to flock to this amazing company that Adam Drake and Miles Spencer thankfully created. And the whisper is coming true to prove they were right to act on their belief, "If you build it, they will come."
