The Storytellers Behind the Stories: Meet Michelle Shreeve

by Adam Drake on

At Reflekta, we talk a lot about the importance of preserving stories.

Family stories. Childhood stories. Love stories. Service stories. The strange, funny, tender details that might feel small in the moment, but later become the very things people wish they could hear again.

But behind every Reflektion is another kind of storyteller too.

There are the people helping shape the experience, ask the right questions, listen for meaning, and understand that a life is never just a list of dates and facts. A life is texture. It is humor. It is contradiction. It is memory. It is the way someone tells a story, not just the story itself.

That is why we are so grateful to have Michelle Shreeve as one of the writers for Reflekta.

Michelle brings a rare and deeply human perspective to this work. She is a freelance writer whose work has appeared in newspapers, magazines, journals, websites, and university publications, both locally and nationally. She also brings a background in library science, education, and writing, which gives her a natural understanding of how stories are gathered, organized, preserved, and shared.

But Michelle’s work goes deeper than writing alone.

She is also a certified grief coach and the author of several books for young readers, including Coping with Parental Death: Insights and Tips for Teenagers and Coping with a Parent Who Overdrinks: Insights and Tips for Teenagers, both part of Bloomsbury’s Empowering You series. Her writing and research have focused especially on children, teens, young adults, and families navigating the loss of a parent, and on how storytelling, writing, books, and even films can help people process grief, memory, and identity.

That experience matters profoundly at Reflekta.

Because what we are building is not simply a technology platform. It is not just a place to upload photos, recordings, letters, or memories. At its heart, Reflekta is about human connection. It is about helping families preserve the voices, stories, personalities, and emotional truths of the people they love.

Michelle understands that stories are not just information. They are how we make sense of love. They are how we carry people forward. They are how we help children and grandchildren understand where they come from. They are how we turn memory into something living.

In many ways, the work of Reflekta lives in the space between technology and humanity. Yes, we use advanced AI to help families create and interact with Reflektions. But the soul of the work still depends on curiosity, empathy, and careful listening. It depends on recognizing when a simple detail may carry enormous emotional weight. It depends on knowing that one sentence, one memory, one phrase someone always used, can become priceless to a family someday.

Michelle brings that instinct to her work.

As a writer, she helps us tell stories with clarity, warmth, and emotional intelligence. As someone who has spent years writing about grief, family, adolescence, and the way people process loss, she brings a level of care that fits naturally with Reflekta’s mission. She understands that preserving a story is not just about the past. It is about the people who will need that story in the future.

That is especially important because stories are fragile.

They disappear quietly. A recipe that was never written down. A lesson learned the hard way. A memory from childhood. A moment of service, sacrifice, mischief, resilience, or love. A phrase someone always used. The sound of someone’s humor. The way they explained the world.

These things can vanish in a generation if no one takes the time to preserve them.

Michelle is one of the people helping us take that time.

Her work reflects something we believe deeply, that technology alone is not enough. The future of memory preservation will not be built by machines replacing human connection. It will be built by people who understand how to use technology in service of something more meaningful. People who know that the goal is not simply to store information, but to keep connection alive.

That is the spirit Michelle brings to Reflekta.

She helps us honor the people behind the stories. She helps us think carefully about families, memory, grief, and legacy. And she helps us continue building Reflekta into something that feels less like a platform and more like a living archive of love, memory, and identity.

We are proud to have Michelle Shreeve as part of Reflekta.

Because every story deserves to be remembered well.

And every story deserves someone who understands why it matters.
